Friedrich Ernst Morgenstern was born as the son of the landscape painter Carl Morgenstern in Frankfurt/Main in 1853. The artist initially started a commercial training which he soon quit. In 1872 Morgenstern went to Paris in order to take painting classes there. The artist returned to Frankfurt the same year and took classes by Johann Heinrich Hasselhorst, Gustav Kaupert and Eduard von Steinle at the Städelsche Kunstinstitut. Morgenstern went on many educational trips to the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, England and Scotland. Friedrich Ernst Morgenstern died in Frankfurt/Main in 1919.
