Dutch, 1899 - 1948
Follow

Freddie Langeler was a self-taught Dutch female illustrator. She illustrated several books by writers like Alfred Listal, A.D. Hildebrand and A.B. van Tienhoven. She was married to comic artist E.M. ten Harmsen van der Beek, best-known as the artist of 'Flipje, het Fruitbaasje van Tiel', the mascot of jam factory De Betuwe.

Langeler regularly cooperated with her husband, not only on the 'Flipje' books, but also on the comic 'Pietje Pluk en Kootje Kwak' for a publication by the Gelderland Electricity Company before and after World War II. Langeler was responsible for the texts in rhyme of the 'Flipje' books, and also for the coloring, for which she was assisted by her daughter Fritzi and son Heintje. In April 1924, she drew the strip 'Bobby den Speurder' with rhymes by Clinge Doorenbos for Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

Langeler's other comics are 'De Lotgevallen van Barendje Kwik aan 't Hof van Koning Suikerbuik' in Elck Wat Wils (1935) and 'Bello Blafmeier' in Radiomaandblad (1938). She was a longtime collaborator to the magazines Kie-ke-boe and Zonneschijn. She passed away after a short illness in 1948.
