Born in Frankfurt am Main in 1751. Trained under his father, the famous landscape painter Christian Georg Schütz the Elder. Began his artistic career with landscape drawings from the Rhine-Main region. From 1777 travels with his patron, the Basel merchant Gedeon Burckhard, through Switzerland, impressions from which he captured in numerous drawings. Died very young in Geneva in 1781.
