Francesco Diofebi was born in Narni, Italy, and went to Rome in 1800 where he studied with several painters and was exposed to the prevailing taste for Neoclassicism. He soon began to specialize in painting views of the city’s architectural landmarks. His most important works were commissioned the Danish Neoclassical sculptor Thorvaldsen and the aristocratic Torlonia family for whom he began to work in 1831.
