Fletcher Charles Ransom was an American painter

Ransom was born at Alamo, Michigan, the son of Kalamazoo pioneers. He studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and later at the New York Academy of Art in New York City, where he shared lodging with baseball great, Denton True “Cy” Young in Greenwich Village. An illustration artist, Ransom maintained a studio in Greenwich Village for years before moving Joliet, Illinois. Ransom’s illustrations have appeared in calendars published by Osborn Company while he was in New York City and Gerlach & Barklow, after relocating to Joliet, Illinois.

He was with Collier’s Magazine during the Spanish American War in 1898. He provided illustrations for McClure’s Magazine and journalist and author David Graham Phillips. Eight years before his death, he moved to Plainwell, Illinois, where he annually produced a painting depicting episodes in the life of Abraham Lincoln for the Chicago and Illinois and Midland Railroad. Ransom was a member of the Society of Illustrators.
