Eugène Damblans was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, into a French family. He began his career as an illustrator working for Argentinian newspapers before settling in Paris. There, he began a collaboration with La Caricature in 1890. In later years, up until 1915, he contributed to Le Pélerin, La Terre Illustrée, Le Journal des Voyages, La Jeunesse Amusante, Le Petit Journal Illustré, L'Echo du Noel and L'Illustré National. Starting in 1920, he produced about thirty comic-like illustrated novels for La Bonne Presse (a.o. 'Le Roi de Paris', 'Trésor de la Dévadassi'). He was also a watercolor painter and book illustrator. He passed away in Bois-Colombes in January 1945.
