Edouard-Hippolyte Margottet (French, 1848-1887)
Édouard Hippolyte Margottet, born in Saint-Quentin on May 24, 1848 and died on December 16, 1887 in Saint-Gérand-le-Puy (Allier), was a French painter.
A pupil of Pils, he made his debut at the 1869 Salon with a portrait of a woman, which drew attention for its excellent distribution of light. In 1870, he exhibited portraits of Gustave Aimard, a novelist then in vogue, and Noël Martin, an actor at the Odéon. He continued to exhibit vigorously colored portraits, flower paintings and still lifes.
