Dellon Marcus Dewey was a bookseller and publisher in Rochester, N.Y. Starting in the late 1850s Dewey produced brightly colored illustrations of fruits, flowers, and ornamental trees to be used by traveling sales representatives from the nursery to market their products to consumers. By the 1870s Dewey had produced so many images , he began compiling portfolios and custom plate books and portfolios for customers.
