German, 1807-1865
Follow

Carl Friedrich Moritz Müller was a German painter. He was the father of the painter Moritz Müller the Elder. He became known for his genre representations illuminated with artificial light.

Müller was initially taught by his father and studied from 1821 with Friedrich Matthäi at the Dresden Academy. From 1829 to 1830 he lived as a portrait painter in Zittau and then moved to Munich. Here he made a few altarpieces for the monastery church in Zittau before he switched to depicting scenes from popular life, often giving his works a special touch with artificial light sources.
