Auguste Pointelin was french artist. He was born and raised in Mont sous Vaudrey in Jura mountains of the Franche-Comté, moving from the college in nearby Arbois, to further studies in science at Lille. He maintained an interest in painting and drawing all this time, however, and began sending his work to the Salon in Paris in 1866. Though he had success in his lifetime, he is best known today as a regional painter.
