Alois Penz was an Austrian painter and etcher.He Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Rumpler and Herterich. After further studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, he studied with Kalkreuth and Thedy in Weimar, and in Paris with Roll and Carrière. He lived in Adriach and in Frohnleiten, where he soon gathered an art-loving circle around him, which included, among others, the composers Heuberger (sd) and Reznicek, the illustrator Diefenbach and the doctor and violin maker Krones.
