Joannes Christianus Antonius Alexander was a Dutch painter, lithographer, watercolorist, draftsman, art teacher and amateur historian. He drew, lithographed, etched and painted buildings and landscapes in Maastricht and the surrounding area, Dutch and Belgian Limburg and the province of Liège. He also wrote antiquarian treatises on Maastricht and Limburg subjects. Alexander Schaepkens was one of the first chromolithographers in Belgium. His work, and that of his brothers Théodore and Arnaud, who are also active in the visual arts.
